As a general dentist, Dr. LaJuana Ravens has expert knowledge of facial anatomy and esthetic proportions of the smile zone. She is very comfortable injecting areas where Botox and dermal fillers are commonly placed. Dr. Ravens is accredited by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics (AAFE). Here are answers to some commonly asked questions:
Botox is a purified protein that relaxes the targeted muscle to smooth overlying wrinkles and is typically placed in the forehead, eyebrows, “crows feet” area, and radial lip lines.
Botox can also be used to relax muscles that cause TMJ pain.
Botox stays in the muscle it is placed in and is not metabolized by the body.
It takes 5-14 days to take effect and lasts 3-4 months.
Injections are quick and similar to the sensation of plucking an eyebrow.
Botox can be done during any dental visit and no one has to know!
Appointments take about 20 minutes; consults are free.
NON-PERMANENT DERMAL FILLERS (ie. Juvederm)
These types of fillers are placed just under the skin to return volume to areas surrounding the mouth, such as the lips, marrionette lines, pre-jowl sulcus, downturned corners of the mouth, and laugh lines.
Dr. Ravens assures the areas are numb before placing fillers.
Results are immediate, but take about 2 weeks to become fully effective and last ~ 6 months.
Side effects, if any, are minimal localized bruising and swelling.
Appointments take about 45 minutes; consults are free.
SEMI-PERMANENT DERMAL FILLERS (ie. Voluma)
This type of fillers are commonly placed in the cheek area to restore volume lost due to aging.
It is not necessary to numb this area.
Results are immediate and last ~ 18 months.
Appointments take about 30 minutes; consults are free.
